The Hale Tradition Begins
An excerpt from the Washington State Cross Country Coaches Association web site upon Brock’s being named to its Hall of Fame in 1995 (the second year of inductions).
Brock grew up in Seattle and graduated from Lincoln HS in 1951, where he played football and track. He graduated with a BA and Masters from the UW in 1958. He taught at Luther Burbank, Hamilton, and Nathan Hale High School. At Hale he was assistant track coach and the cross country job came along with it. His teams won 13 Metro titles and placed in the top 6 eight times. He boys won the State Cross Country Title in 1966. Brock served as clerk of the course for the 1972 NCAA Track Champs and was President of the Wash State Track Coaches Association. He also coached the Nathan Hale boys soccer team to a state title in 1985.
